On a Slope, Even Coverage Is the Whole Game

Water a hillside the way you'd water flat ground and the top of the grade stays dry while the bottom gets soaked. We zone mountain systems around grade and sun and program cycle-and-soak watering, short bursts with soak time between them, so every part of the slope gets an even drink. Less waste, lower water use, healthier plants top to bottom.

Irrigation Built for Mountain Terrain

We design each system around your slope, your sun exposure, and how your landscape is planted, then set it up to survive the WNC winter.

  • Spray and rotor zones matched to grade and coverage

  • Drip irrigation for beds, trees, and sloped plantings

  • Smart, weather-based controllers with cycle-and-soak programming

  • Rain and soil-moisture sensors

  • Backflow prevention

  • Well or municipal water hookup

  • Existing system repair, expansion, and audits

Sprinkler winterization and spring start-up. WNC winters freeze the ground hard enough to crack any line or head still holding water, so a fall blow-out is essential, not optional. We clear the system with compressed air in fall and recharge and tune it in spring. We offer winterization and start-up as standalone services too, even if we didn't install your system, and you can put both on a recurring schedule so it's handled every year.

Need water moved off your property rather than onto it? That's a separate job. See our [Asheville drainage and french drain page].

Thorpe Landscape’s Irrigation Process

  1. Free on-site consultation. We walk the slope, check sun, soil, and how the landscape is planted, and scope the build.

  2. Design and proposal. You'll see the zone layout, the controller plan, and a clear written proposal before committing.

  3. Permits and materials. Permits and backflow requirements handled in-house, materials locked in.

  4. Build. Most irrigation installs take 1 to 3 weeks from start to walkthrough.

Where We Work

Thorpe Landscapes installs irrigation across Asheville, Black Mountain, Weaverville, Hendersonville, Fletcher, Arden, and the surrounding Western NC towns.

FAQ

Do I need to winterize my system up here?
Yes. WNC winters freeze the ground hard enough to crack pipes and heads that still hold water, so a fall blow-out is essential, not optional. We clear the lines with compressed air in the fall and start the system back up in spring, and we can put both on a recurring schedule so you never have to track it.

When I water, the top of my slope stays dry and the bottom stays soggy. Can that be fixed?
Yes, that's uneven coverage and it's the main thing we solve on mountain lots. We zone for the grade and program cycle-and-soak watering, short bursts with soak time between them, so each part of the slope gets the same even drink. The top gets watered as well as the bottom, and you stop wasting water on the low end.

Can you run irrigation off a well?
Yes. Many WNC properties run on well water, and we design the zones and pressure around your well's actual output so the system delivers even coverage without overdrawing the well.

Do you handle backflow and permits?
Yes, backflow prevention and any required permits are handled in-house.

“Garrett Lee and his whole crew did a terrific job on our hardscape and grading project. They were remarkably responsive to our requests, listened well when we had questions. The lot needed a significant amount of grading which they did to our specifications. They laid two different gravel and stone paths, repaired masonry, created parking areas, and also bushhogged a large, uneven area with efficiency and skill. Overall, I would highly recommend them without reservation.”
