Paver Patios & Walkways Built for Mountain Living
Asheville yards rarely sit flat, and the look most homeowners want is the natural one. We build hand-laid flagstone patios, engineered paver patios, and combinations of both, designed to work with the grade, the views, and the freeze-thaw cycles that destroy poorly-built hardscape after one winter.
Hand-laid flagstone patios in irregular and dimensional cuts
Single-level paver patios on flat lots
Multi-level patios stepped into slopes
Flagstone or paver patios paired with retaining walls and stairs
Patios integrated with fire pits, outdoor kitchens, and pergolas
Walkways, driveways, and pool deck transitions
Every project gets a properly prepped base, ICPI-spec installation, and drainage designed for mountain runoff. The patios that fail in WNC almost always fail because of base prep or drainage. We don't cut either.

FAQs
How long does a paver patio take to build?
One to 3 weeks from start to walk through, depending on size, slope, and access.
Do pavers crack in freeze-thaw?
Properly installed pavers don't crack. They flex with the ground. Failure almost always comes from a base that wasn't compacted to spec or drainage that wasn't engineered. We build to ICPI standards on every project.
Should I choose flagstone or pavers?
Both work in WNC. Flagstone gives you a natural, irregular look that fits mountain settings and pairs well with stone homes and rustic landscaping. Pavers are engineered for tighter joints, cleaner geometric patterns, and slightly faster installation. We'll show you both options during the proposal stage.
What about drainage on a slope?
Engineered in from the start. We grade, install drainage where needed, and tie patio runoff into existing systems.
“I have a small back yard that was very irregular and dropped off significantly where I needed to install a patio. To add there was a significant drainage and erosion problem that needed to be fixed as the integrity of the property was being compromised. The yard was essentially unusable.
Mr. Lee from Thorpe Landscapes worked very hard with me to redesign the yard to effectively drain the water and level off my property so I can actually use it again. Mr. Lee was always a gentleman and had much patience with me as we worked through many design modifications.
A new flagstone patio was also installed with a natural rock foundation wall and, in the end, I must say, wow, I could not be happier!
Each morning I would go over the days project with Dillon, the site foreman, and Jose the lead mason and I was able to do my work with total confidence that the job was being done as expected. All the workers on this project took pride in their work and went the extra step ensuring that I was happy.
Thorpe Landscapes comes highly recommended, will have them do the front of the house soon, thank you for a job well done!”
